Fire Forces People To Jump From Windows At Westchester Apartment Building

An overnight fire at a Westchester apartment building forced people to jump from windows in an effort to escape the blaze, fire officials said.

The fire happened on Monday night, April 17 in White Plains at an apartment building located at 11 Lake St., according to White Plains Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 274. 

The blaze broke out on the second floor of the 7-story H-shaped building and eventually spread to the fifth floor. 

Responding firefighters were faced with heavy fire conditions upon arriving at the scene and had to help multiple residents jump from windows in order to get to safety, fire officials said. 

Luckily, firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading across the entire building.
